Nature v. Humans

A whole bunch of us at work became addicted to watching the web cam of the Bald Eaglets nesting and being taken care of by their parents. The Norfolk Botanical Garden/Wildlife Center of Virginia set this “Eagle Cam” up and it became recognized nation wide. Classrooms full of students and people such as myself at work became attached to the babies and the parents. The saddest occurrence happened when the mother went fishing for her babies at this lake near the Norfolk Airport. A passenger plane arrive at the airport hit the mother and she died. Since so many people have been watching this web cam, the Wildlife Center decided to intervene and take the eaglets from their nest and father in order to ensure full survival for all of them. The father, it was speculated, would have been extremely stressed trying to keep up feeding the 3 babies and more than likely 1 or 2 of them would die if not rescued. In any case, here is some footage of the last feeding by both parents. It really is a beautiful thing and it is extremely unfortunate how humans can interfere.
